We understand that families care deeply about the well-being of their children and the success of our schools, just as every member of the 186 family does. When concerns arise, we want to work together to address them in a timely, respectful, and effective manner. While both personal and community based social media is often used to express frustration or share experiences, we respectfully ask that you first reach out directly to your child’s teacher and/or school as the first step and give them time to properly investigate each situation. This allows us to gather accurate information, respond quickly, and find solutions together.

If further support is needed after speaking with the teacher and/or school, families are encouraged to contact the District Office (217-525-3000) and we will direct your call to the appropriate supervisor so that they can assist you with your concern. It is always good to note with whom you share your concern so that we can further assist you if your needs are not resolved.

Above all, please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority and we value our relationships with our families. Please know that threats or demeaning statements of any kind—whether made in person or online—are taken very seriously. Threats of any kind are never considered jokes or a way to blow off steam. District 186 works closely with local law enforcement and the Sangamon County State’s Attorney to investigate and respond to all reports. Serious consequences may result from any threat that is made.

We value open, respectful communication and are committed to working with our families to maintain supportive learning environments for all students and staff.

Thank you for partnering with us.
